I am a Mason City native and have always had an interest in this case. I am rereading "Dead Air" for the second time. The book mentions that Jodi supposedly stopped at JV s the night before her disappearance. The toilet seat being up the day of her disappearance leads me to believe a male was staying with her. Is it possible that Jodi had another man staying at her apartment the night before her disappearance and John was aware and waiting for her outside of her apartment in the morning?
Another reason for the toilet seat being raised is er being sick and vomiting in the toilet. I do not mean to sound cruel or harsh when I wonder if anyone has considered morning sickness, pregnancy, and someone not wanting her to go through with the pregnancy as it would be damaging to their family/ spouse.
A part of me thinks that if the abductor was someone who knew Jodi and had been a person of interest and driving the vehicle (white van) mentioned in the story, the suspect must have had the abduction planned in advance as they would have had to borrow the white van as none of the people of interest were known to own a white van. The other part of me believes that if the abductor knew Jodi, which in most instances in the case, you would think it was done in a fit of rage as it could have been done in a gentler, less obvious way than in the parking lot with her possessions strewn all over. I am lead to believe someone heard or saw something they did not like within 24 hours of her disappearance. Why wouldn't the abductor wait to get her one and one and have her quietly disappear with less sign/ evidence?
As my heart of hearts leads me back to JV, what could have happened between the time Jodi supposedly left the night before and her disappearance the next morning? Had she stopped by JV' to deliver news he was unhappy with? Or when she left did he have suspicions that another man was staying at her house? A neighbor of Jodi's did say they heard a man knocking on her door and asking her to open up the door. Was Jodi home at this time and incise with another man, refusing to open the door for a specific reason?
I wonder if Jodi knows what even happened to her. She was attacked from behind? Did someone just want to set her straight about something but was taken over by the heat of the moment?
I pray for clarity and peace for all who knew Jodi and continue to work on this case. It leaves my heart aching.
