Is it possible that this was done by a serial killer?  Could it be the same person that killed others by beating them in the head?  Others like Steven Fisher, Melissa Gregory, Mildred Clemenson, Bobbi Crawford, Tina Marie Ladie, Laura L. Van Wyhe, Martha Erickson, Susan Kersten, and who knows how many more.  Sounds like anger, power, money, and drugs.  I think that is what a South Dakota investigator thought.  It all starts in Newton, IA.  Why did the police quickly clear him with a lie detector?  I don’t think the investigator believed the lie detector was legit.  Maybe the police don't want him to be caught.   But why?

Lots of good info on iowacoldcases.org.  Interesting quote from an investigator on Bobbi Crawford’s page.

I think the Newton connection is valid and I've even wondered abt Mildred Clemenson because of the timeframe in which she was murdered. She lived on a farm and might have seen something or found something suspicious on her property. It would be very interesting to put together a master timeline with notable crimes, suspects and criminals and lay the final timelines of Jodi, Pruin, Clemenson and all the victim's mentioned above over the top to see who was still in the area or still at large (eg not incarcerated). A pattern or suspect might emerge.

Possibly the first one on the list could be Kathleen Smith from Tempe.  I wander if JVS wears a size 10 shoe.  Interesting coincidence that the same prison-snitch gave information for the conviction in that case and the Honken case.  Small world.
