Just a thought

I don't know why this case has facinated me so much since I saw it profiled on TV. In my opinion I believe that John is the one to focus on. I think that he wanted more of a romantic relationship with Jodi and when she was only interested in being friends I think he lost it. Since they had known each other for a while I am sure that he knew her schedule and her car. I think he waited in the parking lot that morning and attacked her from behind. Not sure what he did to the body though. I also doubt that he passed the polygraph. What I would like to know is how long he had lived in the city and would it be unusal to close his business and move away. I just had a creepy gut feeling when I saw his interview and honestly believe that he did it or had someone do it for him.

He named his boat 'Jodi' and he was the last person to see Jodi (apart from her attacker).

He is by all accounts next to impossible to interview about this case.

Some say he sets their 'hinky meter' off.

I wonder why the person(s) who abducted Jodi not only wanted to hurt her, but also made hiding her such a priority. I wonder sometimes if she could be very close (in or around) to the Mason City area, or if her abductor(s) took her far away.

Here goes with another thought of mine. Since the man that I suspect has a boat I think that he killed her then maybe put cement around her and dumped her in a body of water. Maybe I just watch to many true crime shows but I think that is a possibility. Or maybe he dug a grave on his property, buried her then moved away.

My thought on the case is that a stalker got her. They did it alone, and they planned it ahead of time. Probably had a site prepared ahead of time to hide the body.

I thought John was the guy for awhile until I gathered more facts about the case. Now, I believe he could have done it, but very slim chance. (I'm saying 10% chance or lower of likelyhood). What gets me is the phonecall she made the night before. No mention of anything out of the ordinary happening at Vansice's house (to my knowledge). If John asked Jodi to date or to marry (as some have speculated), I would say there is a high chance that she would mention it in the phone call jokingly (her best friend Tammy said that she laughed at the idea of her and John being together). This suggests that the night before was pretty much routine, and John probably was telling the truth about it.

The weekend before Jodi spent with John at Coralville. So John would not be in North Iowa to prepare a hiding place for the body. Also the time frame. The MCPD say that it happened roughly around 4:30. She probably didn't get out of her apartment any sooner than that. Amy Kunns called her at 4:10 and she was just waking up. This suggests she didn't get out of her apartment till at least 4:45. John met someone for breakfast at 7. It is my opinion that it is near impossible to carry out the crime, hide the body, and be back for breakfast by 7.

John's behavior towards Jodi (throwing her a b-day party, boat, etc.) does hint that he wanted to be more than just friends. But there isn't anything wrong with that and doesn't criminalize him. Jodi was an attractive woman afterall. Maybe he was just the wrong guy at the wrong time?

On the other hand: a stalker. Mason City has a history of stalkers. I have close family members who have had window peepers and a stalker before. Jodi mentioned that she was scared for her safety and even said she witnessed people stalking her. In my opinion, there would be a very slim chance that she didn't have a stalker or someone a bit 'obsessed' in Mason City.

Another thing to mention is the quote from Amy Kunns:

Amy Kunns has voice that she is scared for her life a few times. In my opinion, John isn't someone she can be afraid of anymore because 1. He moved over a thousand miles away. 2. He's in the police's limelight if he's in the area if he's still an unofficial POI. I believe that these newscasters do have stalkers (maybe the same one), and she knew what happened with Jodi because she could have been stalked by the same person? I don't know but she is still scared of someone, and that someone has the potential to nab her just like Jodi.

One last thing: the tactics that North Iowa police departments use is that if they can't get you for one crime, they'll get you on something else. (example: casey fredrickson they got him on the child porn) They usually wait for the person they suspect to mess up and then they lock them up for something else. This hasn't happened in this case's history that either suggests A) John is the main POI at the MCPD and has stayed pretty clean since. or B) The MCPD is as close to solving this crime as they were the day it happened. I'm leaning towards B due to the flood of useless tips and evidence they have gathered. Also the white van (which in my opinion) was never there threw the focus of the case way off.

If some of my facts are twisted, please correct me. I hope I can spark some discussion here and would like to see what other people think of my thoughts.

I agree with you.

1) The police have no idea who did it
2) It was a stalker - and probably a stalker who she had met
3) the white van was fiction

He moved to Mason City in late 1994. He "wore many hats" in his lifetime. What business are you talking about ? He was a seed corn salesman for Pfister Seed Corn. I know where the body is but am not  able to say at this time.

Twid, if you know where the body is, you should contact Josh and Gary privately.  They can handle the information confidentially.
