Hello all! I am new to this web site and obviously new to the forum, however, I just read the "Dead Air" book and got interested in the case. I have heard of Jodi prior to reading the book but didn't know all of the details. I am no detective, nor do I claim to even think of one, but IMO I believe this was somewhat of a random crime. I don't believe this disappearance is related to a stalker....it just doesn't seem to fit. I think if it was some sort of stalker issue, we would have heard a lot more about this person leading up to Jodi's disappearance. She seems like the type of girl to not like some sort of weirdo get away with harassing her. I also don't believe the friend John is involved, either. Why would he have had to wait outside in a car for her to leave work? Could he have simply killed her when she was at his house? He could have called and said he needed to speak to her, drive to her house and taken care of her there. Why risk neighbors, or anyone for that matter seeing you abduct her in the middle of a parking complex? Makes no sense to me. I somewhat believe that this was a crime of opportunity. Maybe someone was getting high in that apartment complex, maybe someone was sleeping in their car, and just happened to see a girl all alone at her car at a rather odd time of the morning.
I pray this case one day gets solved. I find it amazing that a person can simply just disappear.....
Thanks for letting me speak my opinions and I hope to hear from some of you who are more familiar with the case! Maybe some new talk about it will lead somewhere...

Welcome Sarah, there are many opinions about this case some better than others although we will never know exactly what the motivation was until they find who actually did this. This is an excellent site for information and questions. You will have dialog, one thing those of us at the site are good for is challenging our ideas.
Again welcome aboard.

Sara,
You have to remember that Jodi yelled out a name that morning ...jon, ron or whatever.
She knew her abductor.

Hi Sara,
Jodi's "friend," commonly referred to on this website as Cornseed Guy, reportedly was known to sit in the Key Apartment parking lot early in the mornings before Jodi was abducted. (See page 136, paragraph 1 of Dead Air.) That same chapter also makes note of his problems with alcohol and his hot temper.

Welcome to site.. you posted a good theory but i don't agree that Jodi Huisentruit's disappearance was random does anyone else??? The book talked about Jodi being uneasy prior to her disappearance, her sis Joanne even said she called her mom crying about someone following her.. If someone follows you why would you cry unless you think that they might actually do harm to you?..Lt. Sterns said they even had to give her escorts.. So random wouldn't be someone sitting in a running van waiting on a specific person..
Unfortunately this person knew her schedule and was patient enough to wait just like Sterns said on the Dateline show..
I agree with you on Cornseed though.. He wouldnt risk his old neighbors where he lived when he met Jodi seeing him do that and he could've done it at his own place..A stalker or someone she knew is probably the abductor in my opinion.

That wouldn't matter in this instant. She new her abductor! He was way older than her, named his boat after her, and just was to tied to her. Read the book. Maybe that would change your thought.

Agree with Anonymous completely. No big mystery here. Jodi was a fun loving girl who fell into the web of a twisted, violent person. Tell your daughters this story. It may save their lives.

I have not read the Dead Air book but am familiar with the case. Does anyone know if there was ever any DNA testing conducted on the beer cans that were in the parking lot of the Key apartments?
6:40 pm
That's an excellent thought! I wonder if they still have the empty beer cans that were found in her apartment?
8:10 pm
Or any cigarette butts they might have picked up in the area. Ops unless the police were smokers.
8:31 pm
You would hope the police would be careful with their cigarette debris in a crime scene!
6:57 pm
Let me ask you this. Did she have any real friends at work?
7:21 pm
Not everyone makes "real friends" at their jobs. KMIT was a small news station and at the time of day Jodi went to work to do the morning news there were few people in the studio. According to Dead Air, and elsewhere ive read, Jodi was mostly friendly with Robin Wolfram, a newscaster on the evening broadcast. Remember, Jodi had only been there a little over a year, and had come from another state. Also, it seems Jodi made many acquaintances and casual friends but had a small core of close friends from her hometown and college.
I dont find it very strange if she was never close to her co-workers. Im sure there was always some sense of competition between personalities, especially in that business.
Either way, i dont see that as a reason to suspect any of her co-workers without other evidence.
8:16 pm
I am originally from Iowa and Kimt is not as small as you make to be. Let me ask you this was Jodi using drugs? In your opinion?
9:03 pm
Colby....My gut feelings tell me it was somebody thru work she knew also, Not saying He/She or They done away with Jodi....BUT, Maybe had access to people that would do this kind of thing!?
I still feel Strongly that Jodi found out some Bad News going on...My guess Drug Related! As far as Jodi taking Drugs...I would think Not, but knew of some Major Big Wigs that were involved??? Just My Own Personal Opinion!
11:04 pm
Well you know her boss strongly questioned her drug use saying one minute she would be dragging her butt and a hour later be on top of the world. That was a quote from a interview. She also said generally Jodi was habitually late. I just from that point on really started having my doubts. Now they have all closed this chapter in their lives and moved on. I found that not to be very touching.
11:47 pm
There was (is?) a lot of drug use in Mason City. Jodi was very social & spent a lot of time out on the town.
