Was Jodi being antagonized the day before her disappearance?

By Caroline Lowe · On March 8, 2017

Golfers say they remember Jodi telling them she planned to change her phone number the next day because she was receiving ‘nasty, naughty’ calls

The day before Jodi Huisentruit disappeared in June 1995, the Iowa anchorwoman spent several hours participating in a Mason City Chamber of Commerce golf tournament and awards dinner.

She golfed with a team at the Highland Park Golf Course until rain cut the tournament short. Later that day, she attended the Chamber’s social hour and awards dinner at the Mason City Country Club.

In recent interviews with the FindJodi.com team, two golfers said Jodi told them she planned to change her phone number the next day because she had been getting “nasty” and “naughty” calls.

The golfers, who do not want to be publicly identified, said Jodi didn’t seem overly concerned about the calls, conceding they were an annoyance that “goes with the territory” when you’re a local television news anchor.

One of those golfers told our team he was the last person to talk with Jodi at the Mason City Country Club about 8:00 p.m.

He said Jodi told him she was heading home because she had to get up early the next day to anchor the KIMT-TV morning newscast. She thanked him for a nice time, shook his hand and walked out of the club by herself.

The golfer said he was shocked to find out the next morning Jodi had disappeared.

He said he was interviewed several times by Mason City police, who mostly asked about Jodi’s “mood” during the event. He said he told investigators Jodi seemed upbeat and he didn’t observe anyone giving her a hard time.

The FindJodi.com team also recently interviewed the organizers of the annual Chamber event, Dick and Jennifer Langowski.

They also remember Jodi as being very friendly as she socialized at the awards dinner, and said she accepted their invitation to have dinner with them later that week.

Jennifer said she was interviewed by investigators back in 1995 and told them she had not observed anyone bothering Jodi at the event.

Even though it’s been almost 22 years, the Langowskis say the night is cemented in their minds as they wait for answers to what happened to Jodi.

Our FindJodi.com team continues to work on refining a timeline of Jodi’s last 48 hours.

I would imagine that someone, somewhere, has an old VHS videotape of the event? Minus that, I would guess that someone has photographs. Have you researched the possibility of anyone having either photographs or videos of the event?

Hi Billy Bob. Yes, we have inquired with both golf courses and Chamber of Commerce. Anything from the Mason City Chamber of Commerce was lost in floods as we’re told. And recently reps from Highland requested we contact the Chamber, which we’ve also done. We have yet to come up with ANYTHING from that event in terms of video, images, etc. We continue to reach out to readers in the hopes someone was there and has a picture or two. That would be invaluable. Thanks for the post.

What about her phone records, have police followed up on who was harassing her?

that was my question a couple weeks ago when I was reading this same post– I’m sure they got her Records at the time – so why wouldn’t they still be available ? that would have been the first thing in investigation of her missing . to see what phone no’s had gone in to her Phone – and I’m sure a list exist somewhere of the no’s and Names that belonged to them .for her to mention it that day , tells me that she must have got a nasty call the day or so before that , for sure in the past 3-4 days .

That’s a great questions. Seems like her phone records would shed a lot of light on some things.

Who called her most often? How many times? At what times did they call?

Who did she call most often?
Who was the last person she called and the last to call her?

Did she also have a cell/carphone at the time?

Just remember that at the time, landlines were still predominant, and also that the technology for tracking incoming calls wasn’t nearly as sophisticated as it is today!

Yes, but outgoing calls would have been there and phone records of the Honken guy and his girlfriend who lured women for instance might have been gathered for his case and they could look at whether he had called her.

Also, they could get phone records for Vansice and her and it could help verify timelines of that night.

        Her toilet seat was up.

That part bothers me. If she had a lover that night or if John Vansice had come to her place instead of her going to his to watch a video, those would be things that might become more evident if both of their phone numbers were checked.

I watch a lot of ID TV and have witnessed a lot of cases solved from surveillance cameras near the crime scenes. I don’t know if they had a lot of those back then and I am sure if they did the tapes would not go back far enough….

it was 1995 in rural IA – odds are there were not surveillance cameras at the course or her apartment at the time.

Yes, people tend to forget that even a relatively short time ago, the technology that we take for granted today simply did not exist or was much less sophisticated!

Shelley, I wonder the same thing. Jodi told the golfer she was going home. Did she go to John Vansice’ house to watch the video? Any confirmation of that? Did plans change? Did they watch the video at Jodi’s apartment? This would explain the beer cans and the toilet seat left up. It’s clear from videos that he was interested in being more than a friend. Did he make a pass at her in her apartment and then she asked him to leave? Was an intoxicated and furious Vansice the one knocking on her door? Did he continue to drink and wait for her to come out of her apartment?

When Amy Kuns called Jodi at 4:10am, was it really Jodi who answered the phone? Was there an extensive search of Jodi’s apartment for clues? I find it out from videos of her apartment that it was a bit messy, but the comforter was pulled over the bed. Did something happen in her apartment prior to leaving that morning?

I wondered the same thing about whether he went to her apartment. They said that the toilet seat was up and that there were two beer cans draining in the sink.

It seems like some male was likely there.

They said that Vansice was at a bar earlier saying that he received the video. Were they both pretty big drinkers? I wonder about that.

She was in her 20’s but still, 1 drink would have been too much if I knew I had to get up at 3 in the morning.

I haven’t really followed the case. Did Vansice live in the complex?

Jodi was concerned enough to notify MC LE
that she had concerns for her safety and from what I understand received LE escorts to tv station. Didn’t she get abducted on her way to tv station? Seems like an odd connection as I believe that several MC LE were publicly named as have a possible connection to Jodi’s disappearance! Fox guarding the hens house never works out well for the hens!
Also , a female Arkansas LE officers remains were found in a ditch E of MC. How did she get to the location walk from Arkansas!?!
Also, the Machine Shed reference on the billboard- I was a manager at a Machine Shed the only female on the management team. I came into work one day to find our office computer system FROZEN ON PORN!!! Had to contact home office IT to get the computer’s functioning again. There is a possible connection to Boys Town, Human Trafficking, Drugs , Ketamine deaths as part of research project on vulnerable members of the population, child exploitation, rape, murder, missing people, men, woman and children some very dark stuff . Pretty much beware of wolves in sheep’s clothing in the USA. Things are differently NOT what they may seem.
These folks operate without fear of impunity.

Wouldn’t surprise me a bit if Jodi is in a sand trap at a Golf course somewhere in Iowa!
The River Parks and trails East of MC straight shot east of Jodi’s Apartments convention, secluded.
