Jodi's Purse/Briefcase?

Hey everyone:

I was reading one of the archived articles where Detective Stearna is quoted as saying he keeps Jodi's driver's license in his office as a reminder he wants to solve her case, not that he actually needs a reminder. Detective Stearna, I imagine, does this out of respect for Jodi and her family.

But this got me to thinking: I thought I had read in older posts/articles that among the items scattered around Jodi's car that morning in the Key Apartments parking lot her purse and briefcase were nowhere to be found. Am I incorrect? As for the briefcase, some folks had mentioned Jodi kept diskettes and story notes in the case. So my question is, was I mistaken about this? Does anybody know?

Further, I want to share this: if the purse/briefcase really were missing, why were they taken when everything else was so carelessly strewn about the lot? Maybe Jodi held onto them tight, or maybe someone wanted them to go with her. Did Jodi keep her driver's license in her car, or somewhere besides her purse, or was I just misinformed about the missing purse/briefcase? It seems to reason that the police found a purse if they have her license, unless she kept her license elsewhere.

Also, if someone close to Jodi wanted her gone, what better way to stage it than to take the purse/briefcase and make it appear to have been a disgruntled subject of one of her stories or possible stories. For that matter, I have even speculated if the person(s) who abducted her was in fact the stalker who followed her in the truck while jogged...not for the actual purpose of stalking her, but to scare Jodi into reporting it, so that when they did abduct her, police might be thrown off and speculate, "Well, this is a stalker who kidnapped her."

Forgive my rambling ideas. . . I wanted to get some out there. I'd love to know what you all think.

I hope 2011 is going great so far for everyone!

Best wishes,
Greg

I'm fairly new to this and it's my first time posting a comment. I've always thought that the real intent was to scare her, not harm her. That could very well have been accidental. Just another thought to consider.

Hmm, I think Jodi was hit very hard for the attack on her to be a scare but I respect your opinion.

Greg raises a very valid point regarding Jodi's drivers license.
I keep mine in my wallet and I assume most ladies keep theirs in their purse.

How come LE have it?
Did they or a member of the public find Jodi's purse?
I know it's a longshot but there's no harm in asking.

Can anyone throw some light on Greg's question?

I think Greg has a valid point, how did they get her drivers licence unless they printed one out.

There were people who had interesting things to tell the police they never interviewed for whatever reason. Why not and have they since.

Excellent observation, Greg. That's what I've been thinking. It was someone close to her, and they made their move knowing that the "stalker" story would be a distraction from the real perpetrator. LE did indeed pursue this avenue and certainly made it known to the media that "a stalker" was at the top of their list. I never thought it was a stalker.

just thought to bump this...how did LE have Jodi's drivers license? was her purse amongst the things strewn in the parking lot or not...?

Maybe Randy Linderman's first instinct to slow down because there was a police van with its parking lights on in Jodi's parking lot was correct from the start...interesting that they gave him a lie detector test about that

LE is on video saying they escorted Jodi a few times...wonder if that really happened, and if so, who escorted her?

By Jodi going to them with a stalker concern, it may have given whoever is responsible the perfect cover for a crime against jodi to be committed.

We have to hope the fbi is protecting Ohl and Philpott...hard to believe they would take on MCPD all by themselves.

Maybe LE is not directly responsible for what happened to Jodi, but it is not hard to imagine a cover up...this could be just the tip of the iceberg.

Of course there is a cover-up. It's standard investigative procedure not to release everything they know. This is partly to protect witnesses and informants and partly because an interviewee who knows something that the police are holding back is intrinsically more credible than someone who's just been obsessing over the media coverage and is feeding it back.

I think this has come up before if you search around the forum a bit. I will say that I've known women to keep their license in the car. I had a girlfriend once who kept it in the visor because she sometimes switched purses. If you think about it, there are only a handful of times you need to have it on your person. When you're stopped, when you cash or write a check, and when you buy alcohol or cigarettes somewhere they don't know you. whether this is what actually happened or not, there is a less sinister explanation.

There are a lot of things in the crime scene description that are very hard to make sense out of. That much, I agree with.

I ALWAYS carry my drivers license in my purse, I find it to be a bit strange that they have her license with no purse??

Though im on the fence about this info pointing toward LE misconduct(or criminal involvement), i have to put out there that it isnt so weird for a woman to leave her driver's license in her car...In fact, for quite some time, i have left mine in my (locked)glove compartment and take it out if i need it for anything...
Of course, i started doing this only within the past 10 years or so, when i realized its much easier than carrying it in my wallet because i was in the habit of not bringing purse or wallet into my job; no locker or locked area to put it in, and easy access for anyone who wants to go snooping. In my job i do not sit at a desk(where it could be shoved into, etc). Also, i am past the age where i could be carded for drinking or buying cigarettes...Unless my car was stolen, it seems the safest place for my license...Not to mention if i get stopped by LE for any traffic violations, it would be right there with insurance and registration cards.

However, i am a little confused that if Jodi did leave her license in her car, why would LE keep it? Nowhere is it mentioned that it's a copy of it on Det. Stearns wall.
I believe Jodi's car was locked(bent key in lock indicating she never unlocked it and got inside). There has never been mention of evidence found INSIDE of Jodi's car, so wouldnt those items that were inside be property of her family after all this time?
Perhaps LE asked the family if they could keep it...But for what purpose? To put on his wall at the PD? How many other pics or licenses does he have there?

From what i know of following this case, Jodi DID carry notebooks and files with her when she went to work. Apparently they were never found. I dont remember though about her purse.
